 Elder Planning

The aging of parents and other loved ones can be emotionally devastating not only for the aging person but for family member as well.

Many adult children experience feelings of guilt and shame about the choices which must be made concerning care of elderly parents. For many families decisions regarding care of elderly members can cause great strife and animosity, often destroying family relationships. For some families the cost associated with elder care becomes an overwhelming financial burden.

By devising a plan of action prior to the onset of the need or as soon as possible thereafter, many of these problems can be avoided.

A comprehensive elder plan will help families to accomplish six major goals:

    1. Delineate roles and responsibilities of each family member

     2. Ascertain current financial, legal and health conditions

    3. Crystallize current and future needs.

    4. Express future wishes of aging loved ones.

    5. Determine practicalities of meeting needs and fulfilling wishes.

    6. Decrease family conflict.

During the planning process Laurie will also ensure that a necessary legal documents are in place; health care power of attorney, living will, financial powers of attorney, trust.
